Friday, December 11

Today was the last day of Week 3 of the Coaching Academy. I had the opportunity to work with a great group of educators from all around the northeast. We worked very hard analyzing teaching and honing our coaching skills. It was a great opportunity to meet 17 dedicated educators that are working hard to help teachers meet the needs of all their students. If any of you read this I hope you will keep in touch.

Wednesday, Dec. 9

Today at the coaching academy we talk a lot about language and how our coaching and teaching should be generative. We also discussed what proficient readers do and how we can use this analysis to inform our coaching with teachers.

The coaches were sharing helpful sources for purchasing leveled texts. Here are some of the publishers they shared.
Newbridge
Sundance
Rigby
Orca
Steck and Vaugh "Pair-It" Books
Time for Kids
National Geographic

Please share any publishers you are familiar with that offer quality text for readers. Thanks!

Tuesday, December 8

Hello everyone and thanks for visiting my blog page.
This week I am working with a group of literacy coaches from all around the Northeast. We are having some really interesting conversations around the reading and writing process and how to effectively shift teacher understandings.

We have been doing a lot of work with 1 to 1 coaching. However, today we viewed a cluster coaching session. This is when a coach facilitates a group coaching session. I was wondering if anyone "out there" has tried this and would mind sharing your experience.

Hope to hear from you!

Angus
